Lessons Learned Dinner

Who says going “back to school” has to be just for the kiddos?

There’s something really welcoming about the back-to-school season. It ushers in new possibilities, introduces new friends and inspires new chapters. Just like the changing of the weather, this season is a great reminder that you can always have fresh start. And those are all wonderful things to theme a dinner party around!

We thought the best way to do this would be to share lessons we learned, both in school and in life! And truly, it turned out to be one of the best discussions we’ve ever had around the table. We heard stories from choir, soccer, english class and inspiring mentors. We shared about lessons we learned outside of school, within the last year and from our friends and family members. It was incredible to hear people relate to each other’s lessons and create a true space for vulnerability.

Everyone also filled out one of those “milestone” chalkboards you see kids holding on the first day of school. We gave shoutouts to our favorite teachers and classes, joked about what “grade” we were in, and bonded over what we wanted to be when we grew up! We also had all of the attendees bring school supplies to donate to a local school! It was so fun seeing the various goods everyone brought and hearing the memories attached to glue sticks and wide-ruled notebook paper.

It was a nostalgic night that made us think about memories we hadn’t thought of since elementary school. We enjoyed a delicious meal together (complete with “ants on a log” and Capri Sun) and reminisced all night long. The lesson we took away from the night? People can always find something to relate to, no matter how different the school experiences may have been :)
